Advanced Operations Management (in English) - WiSe 2024/2025 - 6876
Operations Management is the systematic design, direction, and control of all kind of transformation processes occurring in companies and along the supply chain. The aim of the course is to look into some more advanced research-oriented aspects of operations management which are recently applied or may be used in the near future by companies. The course is structured in 6 weekly units. Introductory basics and simple tutorials are provided online for self-study. Advanced topics, case studies, and the broader context will be discussed in classroom. Participation in the classroom meetings is strongly recommended, because many relevant topics will be discussed there. The grading will be based on the best 3 out of 5 weekly 30min.-tests on Tuesday and a 90min. The weekly test will take 20 minutes and you can gain 20 points. The final test will be 50 points worth. So the maximum you can reach is 110 points. A minimum of 50 points overall and 20 points for the final test are necessary to pass the course.

Data is everywhere. The seminar “Becoming Fluent in Data” brings data and statistics to life.
The course introduces all the basics from scratch. You go from zero
you hero in data analysis and data science and will become data fluent and learn major skills that you can use in your academic and business career.
We
will touch on a lot of different data types, e.g. tabular data, web
data, text data, geo data, time data and analyses via visualizations,
formulas and models.

In unserem Seminar geht es darum, alleine oder in Kleingruppen, eine eigene Businessidee zu entwickeln, unter verschiedenen Gesichtspunkten zu beleuchten und konkret zu durchdenken, um am Ende einen konkreten Fahrplan (Businessplan) zur Realisierung zu entwickeln. Ein großer Schwerpunkt liegt bei allen Betrachtungen auf Rentabilität, Finanzier- und Machbarkeit.

Business Simulation on Strategic Management (in English) - WiSe 2024/2025 - 6631
In the two-day block course, participants slip into the role of a top management team to gain management experience in a simulated competition against their fellow students: how conflicts arise between business units; how emotions influence decision-making; what it means to have to survive in a competitive environment; how crises can be overcome.
Because no pre-planned ideal solution is implemented in the simulation, but rather the market situation results from the decisions of the teams, a particularly practical approach is created: the success of individual strategies depends on the strategic behavior of the competition - just like in real life.

Consumer Research Methods (in English) - WiSe 2024/2025 - 6830
This course aims to introduce the topic of consumer research to students at the Master level. Participants will:
1) acquire an overview of the most commonly applied methods of qualitative and quantitative consumer research
2) understand each method’s strengths and weaknesses
3) learn to apply one of these methods by engaging in a small research project.
For students unfamiliar with empirical data collection, this course can serve as a suitable introduction and practice exercise for writing a Master's thesis.

Corporate Campus Challenge (in English) - WiSe 2024/2025 - 6852
Campus Founders, supported by the European University Viadrina, are offering an exciting approach for students to learn and apply simultaneously contemporary entrepreneurial and problem-solving theories. In the context of Lean Startup (Ries, 2011) and Design Thinking, in an interdisciplinary team format, students will respond to an innovation challenge provided by a partner company. Uniquely supported by specialised mentors and academic coaches, with access to exceptional Maker Space facilities, students will develop an innovative solution to a given challenge, along with a business model draft and they will present a prototype demo video for their solution idea. Students will present these effectively communicating business value at a special final event in January. Students will also be required to complete a personal reflective written journal based on prescribed questions.At the end of the program, the students will have developed their entrepreneurial skills and competencies to empower them to become independent entrepreneurs or add value to existing companies as intrapreneurs.

Energy Transitions 12 A: Wind Power project deployment against the background of Stakeholder Engagement & Regulatory Framework conditions - The Pilot Case of Pantelleria (in English) - WiSe 2024/2025 - 6889
Against the background of the HORIZON Europe
project WIMBY the seminar analyses
the regulatory framework for Wind Power deployment across the EU (and as a
benchmark possibly in other countries worldwide). The focus here will be on
minimum distances to residential areas, exclusion zones and financial
compensation schemes. Following
the Tenets of Transitional Justice, together we will develop a project deployment strategy for a pilot project on Pantelleria.

International Marketing Cases (Advanced, in English) - WiSe 2024/2025 - 6892
Seminar Requirements
One of the course assignments requires synchronous online teamwork with the master's students from Viadrina's partner university (National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy, Ukraine). Each international team will simulate the multicultural environment of large companies and work intrateam to solve a particular case in international marketing.
